The month of February brings the subject of love to the forefront. Retailers bombard us with messages of roses, chocolates, valentine cards, and other gifts to show others we love them. While it’s wonderful to shower those we love with tokens of our affection, it’s important to ask ourselves the question:
What are we doing to love ourselves?
Yes! We’ve got to love ourself. It is essential that we take time to shower ourselves with love and to care for our physical, emotional and spiritual selves.
This isn’t about being vain or egocentric. It’s not about putting ourselves above others. It’s about accepting and loving ourself as is. Believing that we are the wonderful creations that we are. It’s about throwing out the word perfect and embracing the beauty of our imperfections that make us who we are.
And as stepmoms, we know the importance of giving ourselves some love. We can feel unappreciated and disrespected at times. Those times hurt. It’s important to recognize that the job of stepmom can be tough and unrewarding some days. And that’s okay. Those facts don’t make you less of a mom or less of a person. It means you are a human with a heart. If you didn’t care, it wouldn’t hurt.
Letting go of how we think we should be or feel will empower us to enjoy the person that we are. It is often the expectations that we set for ourselves that get us the most frustrated. Life doesn’t seem to live up to our expectations and this is especially true for us stepmoms.
Embrace the woman that you are and celebrate. And remember to continue loving who you are all year through. While February may be the month where we are covered in pink and red, it’s important that we love and accept ourselves for who we are every day of the year.
So don’t just stand or sit there. Do something right now that celebrates you. And share with others.
