Grandma acts as surrogate for own grandson

| February 15, 2011 | 5 Comments

Last week, a 61 year old Chicago area grandmother gave birth to her own grandson.

You read that correctly–her own grandson.

According to ABC News, Kristine Casey served as a surrogate for her 35-year-old daughter and her husband when the couple experienced multiple other problem pregnancies. Having gone through menopause years ago, Casey used hormone supplements to carry the pregnancy through in vitro fertilization where her daughter’s egg and son-in-law’s sperm were used.

The grandson and grandmother are both fine.

WoW! Impressive! My mom just turned 60 and a day with the grandchildren wears her out…cannot imagine her going through a pregnancy and childbirth.

What an awesome gift that grandma was able to give her daughter and son-in-law…and herself!
