Second career stage: What about nursing?

Nursing school can offer you many opportunities if you are a woman over 40 who is looking to start a new career.  You will still have many years ahead of you to work in the new career.  Nursing school will provide you with a variety of opportunities.  There is a high demand for good nurses in almost every state.  You can earn a very good income and have room for growth in this career.  This is a career change to consider if you are looking to do something different for the second half of your life.

If you have always wanted to work in the healthcare industry, it is never too late.  Nursing school provides you with a way to enter into the healthcare industry without needing to attend school for too many years.  For example, if you want to enter an LPN program, you can become a nurse in as little as 12 to 18 months.  A nursing career is a good option for you if you want to work in a career where you can help people and feel that you are an important part of the healthcare team.

You will probably be able to qualify for a good deal of financial aid for nursing school if you are a mom over 40.  It is likely that your family has a lot of expenses and perhaps you even have a child in college.  All of these things will make it possible for you to receive more financial assistance.  The same is true if you are a single mother.  Sometimes you can receive a large enough financial aid package to pay for your entire tuition and even other related expenses.

There are many programs to help women who want to start a new career.  If you are over 40 and are struggling to make ends meet, you might qualify for programs to help you pay for nursing school.  For example, the Continuing and Adult Education Programs have many opportunities for individuals looking to improve their lives through a new career.  If you are currently unemployed or receiving public assistance benefits, you might also qualify for help to pay for college.

Many scholarship opportunities are available to women who wish to pursue a new career.  There are even more opportunities if you are looking to become a nurse.  Nursing is one of the areas where there are many options for scholarships or grants.  You will have an increasing number of opportunities if you are also a mother and even more so if you are a single mom.  There will be many ways to help you pay for college.

Colleges often offer their own scholarships for moms and older women who want to pursue their education.  You should talk to the financial aid office to learn about any scholarships that might be available to you.  Apply for as many scholarships as you have time for to provide more opportunities for rewards.
