Charlie Sheen: What about the children?

Unless you’ve been on your own island or without technology for a month or so, you’ve probably heard the manic rantings of Charlie Sheen on the television talk and radio show circuit. One of those rants–targeting the producers and executives of  Sheen’s hit comedy ‘Two and Half Men’–was enough to have CBS shut down production.

Since then Sheen has continued making the press rounds spouting off silliness such as, “I am on a drug, it’s called Charlie Sheen!” and “‘I’ve one speed, I’ve one gear, go! And I dare you to keep up with me.”

According to USA Today, Sheen’s “spiral” has included drug house parties, porn star escapades, hospitalizations and more.

Sure it’s the wacky personality of a seemingly out-of-control actor, but one glaring question remains that few seem to be addressing: What about his young children?

Sheen has four young children–two with  former wife and actress Denise Richards and twins with recent ex Brooke Mueller.

Are the kids in danger? Should Sheen be kept from them until he gets help? Sound off in the comments.

This whole situation is quite sad. While so many people are getting their kicks off his psychotic ramblings (and yes, I actually think there’s something to that), he’s displaying some serious mental health issues which aren’t funny. His children have to see their father displaying this behavior and it can really have a traumatic effect on them. Our society tends to laugh and make humor over mental illness and I think continuing to do so results in a complete misunderstanding of how serious these situations are. Mental health services continue to be cut in communities despite a much higher need for them than even 5 years ago.

Hmmm…seems Charlie’s true “rock-bottom” has yet to hit. What I hear coming out of his mouth is the arrogance of an addict–HE’s just fine, thankyouverymuch. He’s not fine. He’s so far from fine it is going to take a detailed map for him to get even close to fine. (OK, now I have Indigo Girls running through my mind…Heh!)

As for the kids? My guess is that they’re not spending a whole lot of time with him–hence the “radio silence” on that one. I’m thinking the moms aren’t too keen on him being in charge of their well-being and safety. I know I wouldn’t be.

      Post Script:

OK, this morning I saw on GMA the second part of his interview. Where we meet his live-in girlfriends who are helping to care for his twins. Um. I’m a step-mom myself, but…no. Just no. He shouldn’t have the kids with him right now. I think he’s too volatile.

Why yes, I do live under a rock and have been spared the Charlie Sheen drama! :D

I personally think that he should only have supervised visitation and only if he is not obviously in a “crazed” state of mind. If he cannot even pull it together for a supervised visitation, then no, he should not be allowed to spend time with his young children. His behaviour could be frightening to a small child that does not understand what is going on. It is true that he has a “sickness”, but if he were sick with Malaria or something contagious then he would be quarantined from the children, so I think drug/alcohol addiction (sickness) should fall under the same category.

    Just my 2 cents. :P
