Extreme Couponing Causes Crime

The latest fad of extreme couponing may be saving you money, but it is costing some.

Apparently, there has been an increase in newspaper-related thefts by people looking to steal the coupon inserts.

According to Poynter.org, “In one case…a woman returned an armload of papers for more because, she said, they didn’t contain inserts. She was seen in her car pulling out the inserts after she traded in the old stack.”

Poynter also reports that Idaho, Texas, Alabama, Florida, and California have all been hit with the coupon-related newspaper theft crime wave.

In May, The Smoking Gun ran a story about a 22-year-old Rochester Institute of Technology student being charged with a felony for wire fraud and counterfeit trafficking for posting fraudulent coupons online.
