No doubt you’ve heard about the recent ground beef recall due to E. Coli contamination.
The recall started with Michigan-based McNee’s Meats and “36 – 10 lb. Bags of McNees Ground Beef Bulk” (numbered EST. 33971 within the USDA seal). Now, the National Beef Packing Co. has recalled over 6000 pounds of ground beef products sold in Kroger, Winn-Dixie and Publix stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee for the same reason.
E. Coli is a bacteria that can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, dehydration, and even kidney failure if ingested. It is especially dangerous to children, the elderly and immunocompromised patients.
The USDA states that consumers with questions or concerns can call “Ask Karen”–the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline–at 1-888-674-6854.
