You’ve probably noticed that Facebook has been making, um, just a few changes over the past week. You probably also noticed your new Facebook wall being filled with status updates that looked something like this:
FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP. $9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD MEMBER SERVICES, $6.99 PER MONTH FOR SILVER MEMBER SERVICES, $3.99 PER MONTH FOR BRONZE MEMBER SERVICES, FREE IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. WHEN YOU SIGN ON TOMORROW MORNING YOU WILL BE PROMPTED FOR PAYMENT INFO…IT IS OFFICIAL IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES. IF YOU COPY THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON IF NOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DO NO PAY
So, in addition to all the complaints about the new Facebook changes, there is also a swirling storm of anger over Facebook going to a paid membership service.
Only, they aren’t.
As Mashable so appropriately points out, “‘It’s free and always will be’ is still in giant font on the Facebook homepage.”
It seems like each time Facebook makes noticeable changes, people start circulating this rumor again.
And, really, people? Did you think Facebook would do something as lame as turning your icon blue just from copying and pasting a message into your status update? I mean, green is such a better color…
