TV Blasts From the Pasts | Beavis and Butthead Interrupt ‘Reality’

While getting ready for my day a few days ago, I was in the bathroom going through my every ritual with the very educational and appealing “Jersey Shore” playing in the background. I am one of those people who needs TV on ALL DAY, even if I’m not watching it, I need to just…listen to it.

On that day, I was in deep thoughts about why The Situation was telling everyone that he and Snooki “hooked up” in LA while she had a boyfriend when my thoughts were disrupted by a noise–a noise I haven’t heard in many, many years. It was a laugh that sent shivers down my spine. It was a noise that made The Situation sound intelligent. This disturbed me so badly that I lost all train of thought. I needed this noise to stop.

I, of course, had to run into the bedroom to see what and why this noise was on my television. Then I saw it–Beavis and Butthead are returning to MTV on October 27th. I was in such disbelief that I had to check it out for myself to make sure I wasn’t having a nightmare. Not only is Beavis and his Butthead friend coming back to television,  the creator has a blog, a new DVD and even an app.

I despise Beavis and Butthead. I despised them when they were on television when I was younger and I still despise them now. While watching the commercial, they were making fun of Jersey Shore. Now that videos are no longer popular on MTV, are they going to make fun of my reality TV? Nuh-uh.

I also recently saw on VH1 that pop-up video is returning. I used to enjoy pop-up video because I am a pop culture junkie. It just gave me facts and more knowledge for those stupid pop culture questions that our friends and family try to stump one another on. I was ok with pop-up video coming back until, again during my reality shows, the bubble kept popping up with facts about my show.

I guess it’s not so much that VH1 and MTV are bringing back old favorites, but my upset is that on weekends instead of being able to turn on MTV any time of the day to watch repeats and repeats and still more repeats of Teen Mom or Jersey Show, now I will see Beavis and Butthead. No more Basketball Wives or Lala’s full court on Sunday when my husband is watching football. Now it will be all pop-up video and stupid laughing cartoon characters?

MTV, I have a few questions for you if you’re listening: As a parent, how do I explain that the new cartoon on MTV is not something for my little ones, but a “grown up” cartoon? Or, that “Cornholio” is not an actual word?

MTV, please don’t let Beavis and Butthead take America again, and please only air reruns in the middle of the night. In case I haven’t told you yet, I despise Beavis and Butthead.

Nooooooo! Say it ain’t so. (Although I have laughed at my fair share of Beavis and Butthead, I’m not sure I want to relive that time.)

Also, I hate those pop-up trivia things. No matter how much I want to watch the show, I turn it if they do those pop-ups. NO THANKS.
