Kate Gosselin Gets Blogging Job, Annoys Bloggers

According to Royal Pingdom, there were 152 million blogs on the Internet in 2010. The number of people making a living from those jobs? Two.

Okay, okay. I made that last statistic up, but you get the point. Blogging is hard…and hard work. Many of us doing this as a full-time job barely get out what we put into it and most of us won’t ever see a profit from it–not one dime after we pay the fees related to maintaining our site. This is why I was pissed to hear that Kate Gosselin landed a real blogging job that pays in an already over-saturated market. Blogging is an area filled with really good writers and serious bloggers who haven’t had a reality show but are in serious need of cash…and still aren’t getting the jobs.

On November 1, CouponCabin.com published a press release on the reality-mom-turned-blogger and her new job. Gosselin will provide coupon tips and saving advice on the site, starting with a piece on November 22 about Black Friday and how to save on holiday gifts.

The amount that Gosselin is being paid has not been publicly disclosed.

Last night, I tweeted about the news and asked bloggers their thoughts. Not one blogger came back with, “OH! What great news.” As a matter of fact, most were confused and annoyed (much the same as me). One blogger said, “Her 15 minutes [were] up hours ago!” and another said, “How do I get that gig? Get a stupid haircut and belittle my husband on national television? Suck on DWTS?”

As I read some online articles, the sentiment was much the same.

A commenter named Dani on Just Jared wrote, “Wow–she is thrilled to lend her expertise? What expertise? This is a woman that spends thousands on hair cuts, manicures, pedicures, clothes, bags etc. And she has expertise that will help those of us who go without or go with discounted shopping and styling?”

So, am I jealous of Kate Gosselin? Sure. As a professional writer of 11 years and someone who has been blogging since 2005, I fight hard for the paid jobs that I get–and sometimes those are few and far between. For Gosselin–someone who is best known for having a large family displayed on  television–to come along and take one of the few paid blogging jobs that are out there right now…yes, it’s a hard pill to swallow.

What do you think? Will you read Kate’s new “savings” blog? If you’re a blogger, are you okay with Gosselin getting this job?

Looks like Kate Gosselin might have had a face lift. News reports are saying that she had a facelift. She blogged about this and said that she did not have a face lift. Although, in 07 and 09 she had a tummy tuck and breast enlargements. I agree with that considering she had so many kids, that would most definitely destroy her looks. Regardless of what people say about her I think she looks great!

I admit, I will probably check it out once…so I can mock her. Because that’s what I do.

I understand this website wanted to hire someone well known to attract some attention, but why not someone who is relevant now? There are plenty of people who are famous right now for doing nothing. KG is old news. Get one of those Sister Wives, at least! Or the Duggar lady. She’s got to know something about deals and coupons.

Can’t wait for the news that the kids from Jersey Shore have been hired to blog about culture and the arts.

the only person LESS qualified to be a paid, professional ANYTHING is a certain someone i could name who is famous for, quote, “having a big ass and a sex tape,” unquote (TM “The Soup”) who filed for divorce this week and who, as a result, is so “exhausted” that she can’t “work” for a while.

sometimes i really hate the world.

Dude, I’ve been trying that “so exhausted can’t work” excuse for years with…no result.

AND, if KIM KARDASHIAN is SO TIRED then why the hell is she on US WEEKLY this week answering ALLL the questions?!?

(CRAP. I got sidetracked with Kardashians. Again.)

All of this begs the question: WHAT DOES KIM KARDASHIAN DO? WHAT IS HER JOB? WHAT IS THIS WORK SHE IS TAKING A BREAK FROM?

        DOES NOT COMPUTE #(*&%)($)#&%$^$&%*(&%#$(@

No. I will not be following her next train wreck. Once upon a time when she was somewhat “normal” and lived like the rest of us…she could give shopping advice. Now she is way out of touch with reality in more ways than one. I find her new persona to be selfish, spoiled and disgusting.

No way. I’ve been a little put of touch in the online world so this is complete news to me. When I think about how hard someone like you works and then I look at her (not to be unkind, but frankly *bizarre* ) way of living out loud on reality tv, it irks me that she gets auto-status just because she’s a slave to the media.

    Grr…
