Lunch Boxes Recalled Due to Freezer Gel Pack Issues

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of California Innovations Expandable Lunch Boxes due to a freezer gel pack ingestion hazard.

According to the CPSC, “gel that contains diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol can leak out of damaged freezer gel packs, posing a poisoning hazard if ingested by children or adults.”

The recalled products are Ci Sport three-piece, expandable, insulated lunch box set, with a lunch box, aluminum bottle and freezer gel pack with the number 1-61731-99-57 on a white label inside the lunchbox.

The affected products were sold at Costco Wholesale Clubs, Leon Korol and Cost U Less stores between May 2007 and September 2008 for about $10.

If you have the lunchbox, please discontinue use and discard the gel pack portion of the lunchbox.

You can visit Costco for a full refund, or you may receive a $5 cash refund for the gel pack by contacting California Innovations at 800-722-2545, or emailing them at ci-recall@ca-innovations.com.
