According to Joan Collins, women over 40 shouldn’t wear jeans because they usually don’t look good in them.
“If you must wear jeans, which are rarely glamorous in women over 40, wear dark blue or black and pair them with t-shirts that are fitted or jackets that are classically cut,” Collins told BBC Breakfast, according to U.K.’s Daily Mail.
However, Collins may be stuck in the “mom jeans” era. Today’s 40-plus women can feel confident in most fashion styles, even jeans. Updated designs have made it possible to look good in jeans, no matter your age, shape or size.
MyFashionCents.com gives some tips for women over 40 looking to rock the denim:
If you’re a plus-size over 40 woman, TLC’s Stacy London advised on The Today Show, “We don’t want to add extra volume to the frame and we do want to fit curves without anything looking too tight. Raise the visual center of gravity by pairing these jeans with an empire-waist top that gives the impression of a higher waistline and longer leg silhouette.”
