‘O Shot’ the New Viagra for Women?

O-shot the new Viagra for women?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, around 40 million women suffer from female sexual dysfunction, or FSD. The issues in FSD can be vast, ranging from painful sex to absence of sexual desire or orgasm. The Journal of the American Medical Association reported in 1999 that 43% of women suffer from sexual dysfunction. And, other studies report higher percentages for women over 40.

“The Global Study of Sexual Attitudes and Behaviors (GSSAB), which included 13,882 women aged 40 to 80 years, reported 26% to 48% of women had a lack of interest in sex, and 18% to 41% of women had difficulty reaching orgasm.”

With numbers this high, why do we see 24 FDA-approved drugs on the market for male sexual dysfunction, but exactly zero designed for women?

Well, that was zero products until now.

O-Shot Targets Female Sexual Dysfunction

A new injection, marketed as the ‘O-Shot,’ is currently being tested to help improve sexual function in women. The shot, being compared to Viagra for men, is said to help women with arousal, libido and orgasm.

The shot uses a woman’s own platelets which are then injected directly into the vagina. The platelets stimulate cell growth, which is reported to make the area more sensitive.

Sexual specialist Dr. Samuel Wood says he has tested the shot on 80 women that has resulted in an 85 percent success rate.

However, some physicians are not as excited about the new shot.

“Injecting growth factors into the genital tract of a woman has risks associated with it and the benefits have not been teased out,” Dr. Jennifer Berman, a practicing urologist and part of the TV show The Doctors, told NBC News.

What do you think? Does the O-Shot sound like a good idea?
