7 Fall-tacular Activites for Fall Break To Prevent Boredom

Fall is just around the corner, and I am so excited. I can already feel the chilly air and smell the crisp scent of leaves. You know what else fall means? Fall break! I know some parents groan when they think of their kids being out of school for a week or two, but I always start thinking about all of the fun things we can do. Here are some of our favorite fall break activities to start gearing you up for all of the fall fun.

Painting Pumpkins

Around here, we love pumpkins. We love to eat bake, carve, and paint them. All you need for this is some acrylic paints, brushes, pumpkins, and imagination. My daughters love to create silly or spooky characters out of pumpkins. The nice thing about painting, instead of carving, them, is that they don’t rot as quickly. Also, when they are painted, it’s easier to keep them in the house. Choose any size pumpkins you want. I really love painting the little ones and decorating the porch rails with them.

The Pumpkin Patch

The best place to get pumpkins for any activity is the pumpkin patch. My kids love to go here. The one here, has a straw bale ride, a corn maze, a petting zoo, and a dinosaur that smashes pumpkins! It’s not just picking up pumpkins at the grocery store, it’s an entire experience to create lasting memories with your kids. Plus, what’s better than picking your pumpkin out of a field and get cute pictures of the kids petting goats?

Leaf Collages

My girls love different art projects, especially ones that involve scissors and glue. For this activity, we go on a walk around the neighborhood, park, or even the back yard. We collect leaves of all different colors, sizes, shapes, textures. Once my daughters feel like they have enough, we head back home and get ready to craft! My two-year-old likes to just take the whole leaves and glue them to a paper. My nine-year-old likes to cut shapes out of the leaves and glue them together to make a picture. The art is always cute and really ups the fall decor in the house.

The Apple Orchard

Nothing is sweeter than a fresh apple just picked off the tree. My kids love to pick their own apples. I feel it is wonderful for children to see where their food comes from. I want my kids to be able to see apples grow on trees, and don’t just magically appear on store shelves.

Make Apple Sauce for Fall Break

After a trip to the orchard, this is what you can do with all those apples. I always heard stories as a kid about how hard it is to make applesauce. I didn’t try making it for forever, and man, was I missing out all those years! It’s so simple if you have a crockpot. All you need is 4 lbs of apples, 1 cup of water, 1 TBS lemon juice, ½ cup of sugar (less if you like it less sweet), and a dash of cinnamon. Throw all of that into a crockpot and let it sit on low for 6 hours. Done! My daughters always like it when we eat while it’s still warm or mix things up a bit and add in another fruit, like raspberries or strawberries. Add them in the last hour so that they don’t overcook.

Leaf Piles

It’s such a simple thing, but my kids, even the teenage boys, love to jump in leaf piles. Just get some cheap yard rakes and have everyone start to rake the leaves into one or more piles. My kids love to rake up the leaves, just to spread them all over again. If you don’t have a yard or trees, ask to go to a friend’s or go to a park with trees.

Get Ready for Halloween

Fall break is just before Halloween in our part of the country. This means that Fall break is the perfect time to pull out the Halloween decorations and get ready for some celebrations. I usually let my kids do the bulk of the decorating. They love the way the house looks when they are done, and I get to enjoy their excitement. Win win!

The Fall offers so many activities. With the cooler weather and crisp air, doing things outside is perfect. For my family, the Fall is the perfect season and full of excitement.
